Anxious For Nothing
We were designed to work. When God created mankind, he set them in the garden He told them “be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it”. In other words, they were to work together. They were to subdue the earth, meaning they were to work to make the earth ripe for human flourishing.
In that fall and in that curse the two major problems that arise are despair at the work because it is hard so there is a desire to escape work. Then there is the problem of making work the meaning of our life. We find success in something, we feel accomplished in something, and so our life become about that and rest becomes hard to find.
It's like when you are at the beach building a sandcastle. You have worked on it for a good while and you got it the way you like it and then the tide comes in and washes your work away. Maybe you have felt the sting of disappointment as you have poured your life into a job or project to see it all come to naught.
